Chloë's Fight with Ewing's
Chloë's Fight with Ewing's and for every child to count: raising vital funds for life saving research into Ewing sarcoma.
Chloë's Story
Chloë had a beautiful smile, a heart of gold and an infectious laugh, she loved animals especially elephants and giraffes. Chloë dreamed of becoming a paediatrician, she loved drawing, listening to music (especially JLS) and she also loved family time.
Chloë’s journey began in December 2017 with many visits to medical professionals, both at our GP Surgery and Out of Hours Services. For many months, Chloë was misdiagnosed and finally in May 2018, we refused to leave the GP surgery until she was referred for further investigation. Chloë was a fit and active girl and we just knew something wasn’t right.
After many tests and a couple of weeks in hospital we heard those dreaded words, something we never imagined. Chloë was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, something we had never heard of, she was just 15 years old.
Chloë was amazing from day 1, she was brave and never thought about herself. Chloë always said we were going through this as a family, she had the tumour growing inside her, but all five of us were on this journey together.
Chloë blew everyone away with her determination and drive, she sat some GCSEs just weeks after being diagnosed and whilst in her hospital bed, hooked up to chemotherapy, Chloë went on to do her A-levels.
Chloë had many red flag warning signs for Ewing sarcoma that her doctors missed. Childhood cancer is rare and Ewing sarcoma even rarer; many doctors wouldn’t have seen it before and won’t see it again in their career. This is why Chloë was determined to make a difference and to make sure no one else went through what she and her family did. She wanted to get the signs and symptoms of Primary Bone Cancer better known and to raise so much awareness and funds to help as many people as possible and hopefully find a cure one day.
We decided to set up Chloë’s Fight with Ewing’s through BCRT to help us achieve Chloë’s goal. At first we were worried as we thought Special Funds were only set up in memory, but this wasn’t the case. Chloë was also concerned that we didn’t have a big enough community of people to help spread awareness or raise money, but because of her dedication to the cause, our community has grown. Every penny counts and every £30 raised pays for 1 hour of vital research.
After another fight and signs missed again, even by the oncologist this time, Chloë was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia and leukaemia cutis, likely because of the harsh treatment given for Ewing’s. This meant there were very few options available for treatment.
Devastatingly our world was torn apart in July 2020 as Chloë became our true Angel, the brightest star in the sky.
Supporting Chloë's Fight
Chloë's family and friends along with the wider community continue to raise awareness and vital funds for new life saving research into Ewing sarcoma, to help children and others like Chloë, as was her wish.
From skydives to bake sales and street collections to Family Fun Days and Tough Mudders there are loads of ways that you can get involved and to continue Chloë's wish, keeping her memory and spirit alive.
You can support Chloë's Fight right now by donating straight to the fund or by getting involved through the Chloë's Fight Facebook page.
“ We promised to continue Chloë’s Fight to spread awareness and raise vital funds, for better treatment and one day hopefully a cure. Thank you for taking the time to read Chloë’s journey and supporting us.”
